While looking for an idea for a blog post, I was reminded of The Game Changers documentary. It made quite an impression on me; I was provided with interesting and eye-opening facts about how food affects our health and physical performance. The documentary shows famous athletes like James Wilks, Lewis Hamilton, Jackie Chan, Morgan Mitchell, Scott Jurek, Dotsie Bausch, and many more, who improved their physical performance after switching to a plant-based diet. They had more energy, were able to build muscles, and recover faster between training sessions. The documentary revolves around the mixed martial artist James Wilks and his search for recovery after experiencing a major injury. On his journey, he discovered that not only were the great Roman Gladiators plant-based competitors, but that some of the strongest animals on earth base their diet solely on eating plants. In the film, the firemen were switched to a plant-based diet for one week. After seven days their cholesterol levels and blood pressure improved significantly. This is because plants contain antioxidants that help prevent the buildup of fatty plaque on artery walls. Plaque causes inflammation and slows down or blocks blood flow to the heart and other parts of the body. The movie even dived into the sexual performance of males, explaining how food affects sexual function. After eating animal-based protein, blood plasma of test subjects was shown to be cloudy; cloudy plasma is indicative of a higher lipid (fat) level in the blood. Elevated lipid levels not only contribute to cardiovascular diseases but may also affect one's libido. The Game Changers showed that the meal affected the subject’s sexual response during sleep. On the first night the men were given a meat burrito, and on the second night they consumed a bean burrito. The results? The men had more frequent, longer lasting, and stronger erections throughout the night after eating the bean burrito. Although women were not included in this study, I strongly believe that they would have a similar experience due to the improved blood flow to genitals.
The Game Changers points to many benefits that plant-based nutrition provides. I encourage you to watch this documentary so that you may learn about the advantages yourself.
